At the forefront of digital and technological transformation, TietoEvry embarked on a strategic journey to not only redefine the landscape of innovation but also to nurture entrepreneurial ventures through its business incubation program. With Daniel Kvist leading as an Innovation Coach and Business Designer, the initiative aimed to leverage the collective intelligence and creativity of TietoEvry, its clients, and partners, fostering an ecosystem conducive to the generation of groundbreaking solutions and startups.

Challenge

The dual challenge was to develop a robust co-innovation framework that would streamline collaborative innovation processes while simultaneously establishing a business incubation program to support and accelerate the development of entrepreneurial ventures. This comprehensive approach sought to cultivate a culture of innovation that extends beyond TietoEvry’s immediate ecosystem, encouraging a broader impact on the industry and society at large.

Objectives

The project was driven by objectives that spanned both co-innovation and business incubation:

  • To formalize a co-innovation framework that encourages mutual innovation between TietoEvry, its clients, and partners, enhancing the organization’s capability to co-create value.

  • To establish a business incubation program designed to support emerging startups and entrepreneurial initiatives, providing them with the resources, mentorship, and network needed to succeed.

  • To harness the synergy between co-innovation and business incubation, ensuring that innovative ideas are not only generated but also effectively brought to market, driving transformational change across industries.

Study of organizations’ co-innovation maturity

We conducted a study using our customer-centric business development approach used in the Business Incubation Program with the objective to provide an overview to:

  • Organizations´ main challenges in innovation activities

  • Organizations´ primary expectations to innovate with partners

Co-innovation governance framework
The outcome of the study was a detailed customer-validated co-innovation governance framework developed together with potential customers and compatible with ISO 56002 standard (Innovation Management System. The framework covers the full co-innovation journey including:

  • Entry criteria to start co-innovation

  • Innovation management

  • Core-components: phases from Idea to development & launch and scale to continuous improvement

  • Steering & governance

  • Finance, resources & staffing

  • KPIs to measure success

Co-innovation offering impact

  • 50+ leads interactions (potential pipeline)

  • 20+ leads responded and wanted in some way to be engaged in co-creation.

  • 13+ leads were engaged in co-creation and validation activities of shaping a co-innovation governance framework.
