Value-Purpose Framework: case study

Stampen Media's strategic transformation

Background

Stampen Media, a leading Swedish news organization, embarked on a journey to redefine its product vision and create a user-centered news experience, aligning with its commitment to independent and impactful journalism.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to develop a future-proof product vision and strategic framework that would guide the development of digital technology platforms, ensuring they remained user-centered and sustainable.

Daniel Kvist played a crucial role in facilitating this transformation. He conducted six workshops focusing on co-creation and collaboration, along with two key stakeholder sessions. These workshops aimed to define the purpose and vision for Stampen Media's digital offerings.

Samuel Plam and Paula Ventura from Stampen Media acknowledged the effectiveness of the new product vision and the strategic framework's alignment with corporate goals.

“We had identified the need to develop a new product vision. Something that would serve as our promise to our users and guide us in the development of our future products and services. Our goal was to co-create and anchor it with key individuals within the organization as effectively as possible.”

Samuel Plam, Head of UX, Stampen Media.

The result

The process culminated in a new strategic framework guiding organizational decisions and development.

This framework included a revamped product vision and a set of experience principles aligned with Stampen Media's strategic goals, vision, and values.

This framework transformation at Stampen Media encompassed a revamped product vision and a set of tailored experience principles, all meticulously aligned with the company's strategic goals, vision, and values. To effectively gauge the impact of each principle, we intricately linked them to specific OKRs and KPIs. This linkage allowed for the measurement and tracking of progress across three crucial dimensions: business, user, and organizational values, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation aligned with Stampen Media's North Star Metrics.

Each experience principle was not only a manifestation of Stampen Media’s core values and guiding principles but was also distinctly evaluated across user, business, and organizational perspectives. This methodical approach applied consistently across all principles, guaranteed a holistic and effective assessment of their impact. For instance, consider the following example:

Experience Principle (Values & Guiding Principles)
User value (KPI/OKR)
Business value (KPI/OKR)
Organizational value (KPI/OKR)

Impact

This transformative journey led to a collaborative, decision-making environment across business units and stakeholders.

The product vision, already partly implemented in the new product organization, along with the experience principles, is set to deliver a user-centered, responsible, and seamless news experience.

Thanks to the guidance and effective facilitation by Daniel Kvist, we are now in a good position with a product vision framework that has been validated and co-created with key individuals and is in line with our corporate ambitions and strategy.

Paula Ventura, Head of Product Management, Stampen Media.
